Dr. Sathyaki Nambala, senior consultant and chief of cardiac surgery at Apollo hospital, is a certified cardiac and thoracic surgeon practicing in Bangalore. He has performed more than 8000 open heart procedures and more than 1600 minimally invasive surgeries. In addition to his involvement in training surgeons in advanced and innovative surgical techniques, he has participated in national and international operative surgical symposia and has lectured nationally and internationally.

 

Dr. Nambala served as a Senior Fellow in Cardiac surgery at the Harvard Medical School affiliated to Brigham and Women’s hospital, Boston, USA which is consistently ranked among the top 5 hospitals in the US and has the largest series in minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. Dr Nambala also trained as a Fellow at the Toronto General Hospital’s The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre in Canada well known for its expertise in complex aortic valve and aneurysm surgery. He has significant experience in complex valve repairs and is well known for his skills in complicated cardiac operations. He did his basic surgical training at St Johns Medical College, Bangalore and his post doctoral cardiac surgical training at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences, Trivandrum – Kerala.

Achievements

He has gained recognition for performing multivessel bypass through as small anterior thoracotomy also known has minimally invasive coronary bypass or MICS CABG. He currently has the worlds second largest series with exceptional outcomes. It offers advantages to both the patient and surgeons. He is also known for performing complicated heart valve replacements /repairs via a keyhole also termed as Totally Endoscopic Heart Surgery. He also has significant expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery from his tenure at the renowned Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences.
